Each year, during the second weekend of August, the city of Auburn,WA closes the downtown streets to traffic and a three-day festival begins on the Friday before the weekend. Formerly known as 'Good Old Days,' it was changed to 'Auburn Days' for 2012. This year it is August 10-12.
See the Adventures in Literature link at the main Good Old Days website.
Robert Blevins from AB helps organize the 'Adventures in Literature' event held at the Auburn Avenue Theatre each year during this festival. This year, we are coordinating with Booktrope.com on this event. Events on Saturday are the responsibility of AB and Robert. The Sunday event is hosted by the Striped Water Poets of Auburn. It's always a lot of fun. The picture shown on the left is from last year. That's why the date is different from this year.
For full info, see the poster shown below.
This year, Adventure Books is going to host a big Book Exchange outside the theatre beginning on Saturday. This means we lay out hundreds of books on tables at the theatre and you bring some of your own books. You can then exchange your books one-for-one, two-for-two, or fifty-for-fifty if you wish. Get rid of your unwanted books and pick up some you actually want! It's all free, including almost every book we have for the Kindle until midnight Sunday, August 12th. You can go to our Kindle page to view titles, or search us out at Amazon.com.
Runs Saturday through Sunday, August 11-12, at the Auburn Avenue Theatre.
Although many authors will be meeting, greeting, and doing readings, our keynote speaker this year is author Susan Wingate, who is from the San Juan Islands in Washington State.
Her recent release, Drowning, was a big hit in the Amazon Kindle version. It was downloaded more than 25,000 times between March and April of this year. She will be speaking for a half hour in the morning on Saturday, and a half hour in the afternoon.
There will also be an Art Show at the theatre with local talent.
Scheduled speakers also appear onstage. Mr Blevins will be speaking on the subject of how to realistically publish both digitally and for the Amazon Kindle platform. Many small to medium presses, as well as self-published authors, are now reporting that sales of their Kindle books with Amazon are outselling their paperback versions at nearly ten to one. Come and find out how it's done, and how YOU can do the same thing without laying out a single penny. And don't forget to bring in your books and swap them out for some new ones. Everything at the Adventures in Literature event is FREE, including admission. Free refreshments provided!
